AWAKE BOOK // About the Project
Awake Book was a passion project produced for Grace Midtown. Stories, art, poetry and photography were submitted by over 40 congregants.. Published in full color offset print, this book became a beautiful collection of voices and stories fully representative of the life journeys from various congregants of all ages and diversities. Every story included original work or photography specifically created for this publication.
The logo was inspired by the concept of an eye beginning to open to play off the idea of “becoming awake”.
It was really beautiful to see this project come to life. The narrative below was written as the thematic heart behind the entire publication. It was the language used to capture the vision when gathering contributors and the narrative used within the short promo film.
THE NARRATIVE
Woven throughout our community are stories,
Stories of victory, redemption, freedom and grace.
Of people coming awake to the wonder of God
And hearing His voice over their lives.
But what do you do when you’re left with no answers?
On the other side of joy,
We often find pain, waiting, questioning and hope deferred.
These stories lead to the tension…
The aching…the waiting that exists between
A dream and it’s fulfillment–the in-between.
Can we be those who find God within it all?
We hope to awaken a beautiful awareness
Of the in between.
To push past the shiny, to reveal authentic life
With God, ourselves and the world around us.
